The Football League Second Division 1946/47 was the 44th season of the Football League Second Division as the second highest English football league and at the same time the first season after the end of the Second World War . It began on August 31, 1946 and ended on June 14, 1947.

Second division champions were Manchester City and also the second-placed Burnley FC rose to the Football League First Division . For the two promoted teams in the following second division season 1947/48, the two first division clubs Brentford FC and Leeds United, which are ranked in the table below, took the places. Swansea Town and Newport County had to relegate from the Second Division , with both clubs now having to compete in the South Season Football League Third Division South . Instead of the two clubs took the free positions in the following season 1947/48 Third Division North champion Doncaster Rovers and from the Third Division South the winner Cardiff City .
