The Football League Second Division 1954/55 was the 52nd season of the Football League Second Division as the second highest English football league . It began on August 21, 1954 and ended on May 4, 1955.

Second division champion was Birmingham City and also the second-placed Luton Town rose to the Football League First Division . For the two promoted teams in the following second division season 1955/56, the two first division clubs Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday ranked in the table below . Ipswich Town and Derby County had to relegate from the Second Division , with Derby now having to compete in the North Season Football League Third Division North and Ipswich in the Football League Third Division South . Instead of the two clubs took the free positions in the following season 1955/56 Third Division North champions FC Barnsley and from the Third Division South the winner Bristol City .
