The Football League Second Division 1984/85 was the 82nd season of the Football League Second Division as the second highest English football league . It began on August 25, 1984 and ended on May 13, 1985.

Oxford United became second division champions and the second and third placed Birmingham City and Manchester City also rose to the Football League First Division . For the three promoted teams in the following second division season 1985/86, the three first division clubs Norwich City , AFC Sunderland and Stoke City, ranked in the table below, took the places. Notts County , Cardiff City and the Wolverhampton Wanderers had to relegate from the Second Division to the Football League Third Division . Instead of the three clubs in the following season 1985/86 the third division winner Bradford City and behind them Millwall FC and Hull City took the vacant positions.
