The Football League Second Division 1937/38 was the 42nd season of the Football League Second Division as the second highest English football league . It began on August 28, 1937 and ended on May 7, 1938.

Second division champion was Aston Villa and also the second-placed Manchester United rose to the Football League First Division . For the two promoted teams in the following second division season 1938/39, the two first division clubs Manchester City and West Bromwich Albion ranked in the table below . FC Barnsley and Stockport County had to relegate from the Second Division , with both clubs henceforth having to compete in the Northern Season Football League Third Division North . Instead of the two clubs took in the following season 1938/39 Third Division North champion Tranmere Rovers and from the Third Division South of the winner Millwall FC the vacant positions.
