The Football League Second Division 1902/03 was the eleventh season of the Football League Second Division as the second highest English football league . Second division champions were Manchester City and also the second-placed Small Heath rose to the Football League First Division . For the two promoted in the following second division season 1903/04, the two first division clubs Grimsby Town and Bolton Wanderers ranked in the table below took the places. The club formerly known as Newton Heath first appeared as Manchester United after a name change in April 1902 .
The Doncaster Rovers had to relegate from the Second Division . In addition, Stockport County and Barnsley FC also feared staying in the class, but then received enough votes in the reelection process of the league association to be allowed to participate again in the Second Division in the following 1903/04 season. The place of the Doncaster Rovers took in the following season promoted Bradford City .
