Glossop North End is an English football club from Glossop in the county of Derbyshire .

history

Early years

Glossop North End was founded in 1886. In 1890 the first league football was played, in 1894 the club became a member of The Combination . Two years later, the club moved to the Midland Football League . In 1898 GNE was accepted into the Football League Second Division .

Football League

In the first year in the Football League succeeded immediately behind Manchester City the runner-up, which Glossop North End rose to the English first division . However, the club had to accept the direct relegation as the bottom of the table. In the "eternal table" of England's top division, Glossop has since been "eternally last" with 4 wins, 10 draws, 31–74 goals and 18 points.

In the second division, the club occupied midfield in the following years. In 1904, the team only finished second to last, but was re-elected. 1909 achieved the best result in the club's history in the FA Cup when the quarter-finals were reached, but Bristol City was able to prevail in the replay. In the following years the club went steadily downhill and in 1915 the season was finished bottom of the table.

Regional leagues only

Following the First World War , Glossop North End was not re-elected and competed for one season in the Lancashire Combination . In 1920 the club withdrew to the Manchester Football League . 1957 they rejoined the Lancashire Combination, but returned in 1966 back to the Manchester League. In 1978 the club joined the Cheshire County League . After the merger of the league with the Lancashire Combination in 1982, GNE became a founding member of the newly formed North West Counties Football League , and in 2015 it was promoted to the Northern Premier League .
