Glossop is a city in the English county of Derbyshire . It belongs to the District High Peak . Glossop is about 21 km east of Manchester and about 39 km west of Sheffield and has 32,428 inhabitants (2001).

history

Glossop was occupied by the Romans ; there are in Gamesley the relics of a Roman fort called Ardotalia by the Romans but now called Melandra . Glossop became an important cotton mill town in the 19th century.
