The Football League Second Division 1894/95 was the third season of the Football League Second Division as the second highest English football league . The first game day took place on September 1, 1894 and the last "test games", which were decisive for promotion and relegation, on April 27, 1895.
Second division champions were Bury FC , who won all home games throughout the season. In addition to Bury, the second and third placed Notts County and Newton Heath also qualified for the "test matches" against the three first division clubs Stoke , Derby County and Liverpool FC , which are listed in the table below . While Notts County and Newton Heath failed there at Derby County and FC Stoke, FC Bury secured participation in the elite league in the following season 1895/96.
The Walsall Town Swifts then no longer took part in the Second Division. In addition, Lincoln City , Burslem Port Vale and Crewe Alexandra had to worry about staying in the class, but then all received enough votes in the re-election process of the League Association to be allowed to participate again in the Second Division in the following season 1895/96. Instead of FC Bury and Walsall Town Swifts, relegated Liverpool FC and Loughborough FC as a newcomer took the vacancies in the Second Division.
Before the automatic promotion and relegation rule between the first-class First Division and the second-rate Second Division, which first came into effect at the end of the 1898/99 season, potential promoters from the Second Division had to prove themselves in play-off- like “test games”. Participation in the game was also dependent on an election procedure of the league association, which had to decide whether a club might participate. Also in the 1894/95 season there were test matches between the last three first division clubs Stoke FC, Derby County and Liverpool FC as well as the best second division clubs Bury, Notts County and Newton Heath, from which Bury FC, Derby County and Stoke FC as the sporting winners emerged and then each secured the majority of the votes of the league association.
