The Football League Championship 2005/06 was the second season of the English Football League Championship and at the same time the 14th season of the top division of the Football League - after the introduction of the Premier League - as only the second highest English league. The season began on August 6, 2005 with the opening game between Sheffield United and Leicester City (final score: 4: 1). As a climber came Luton Town , Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday to do so. Crystal Palace , Norwich City and Southampton FC were relegated from the Premier League last year , thus completing the field of 24 teams.
