Marlon Francis King (born April 26, 1980 in Dulwich , England ) is a Jamaican football player . He is also a British citizen. He has had frequent conflicts with the law and in 2014 served an 18-month prison sentence for driving dangerously.
Player career
National
Marlon King started his career in 1998 with the London club FC Barnet . After two years he left this and went to Gillingham FC , where he scored 40 goals in three years and was able to attract the attention of larger clubs. From 2003 to 2005 King played for Nottingham Forest . In March 2005 he was loaned to Leeds United at short notice , but he could not convince there and remained goalless in nine games.
In the summer of 2005, King was finally awarded to the second division club Watford FC , where he made his breakthrough in professional football. With 21 goals in the 2005/06 season, he was the top scorer and made a significant contribution to promotion to the Premier League . Watford then signed him firmly. After the descent of Watford, Marlon King initially stayed with the club, but moved back to the first division in January 2008. With Wigan Athletic he achieved relegation, but he could not prevail in his first half year.
For the 2008/09 season Marlon King was loaned to the Premier League promoted Hull City and to the later relegated FC Middlesbrough . On October 29, 2009 King was sentenced to 18 months in prison for assault, whereupon his club Wigan Athletic announced the immediate termination of his contract within 14 days.
After his release from prison, he signed a one-year contract with Coventry City on September 20, 2010 and completed 28 league games in the Football League Championship 2010/11 , in which he scored 12 goals. At the end of the season he moved to Birmingham City , which will also play in the second division in the coming season after relegation from the Premier League 2010/11 .
