There he scored 25 goals before moving to Reading FC in June 2005 for 117,000 euros . With Reading FC, Doyle was promoted to the English Premier League in 2006 . For the 2009/10 season he moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers for just under 6.7 million pounds .

On his first appearance for Rangers on February 1, 2014, he scored the 1-0 opening goal against Burnley FC (3: 3) in the seventh minute of the game. From 2015 Doyle ended his career with the Colorado Rapids in the American Major League Soccer and ended his active career in September 2017.

Doyle began his international career for the Irish U-21 team on February 2, 2004 against Portugal. On March 1, 2006, he made his debut for the national team of Ireland on the occasion of a friendly against Sweden . He scored his first goal for Ireland against San Marino in November 2006. He was nominated for the European Championship in 2012 , which was used in two games, but was eliminated with his team after the preliminary round. Although he had only played one international match since the match against Gibraltar in March 2016, in which he had to be substituted after 27 minutes due to an injury, he was joined by national coach Martin O'Neill on May 12, 2016 in the provisional 35 players Called for the EM 2016 . But he still played during the EM preparations until two days before the final squad nomination in the USA and was ultimately not considered for the EM finals. Among the players not included, he is the player with the most international matches and goals.
