Clinton Morrison (born May 14, 1979 in Tooting ) is an Irish football player of Jamaican origin who has been under contract with Sheffield Wednesday in Football League One since July 2010 .

Career

society

The English-born Irishman began his career in the youth teams of Crystal Palace , for whose professional team he made his Premier League debut on May 10, 1998 . In the game against Sheffield Wednesday he came on in the 82nd minute for attacker Neil Shipperley and eight minutes later marked the 1-0 winner for the Eagles . This was his only bet that season. In the following season 1998/99 he was able to earn a regular place at Palace, completed 37 games for the club, which has since been relegated to the Football League Championship , and scored twelve goals for the team from London. In the following three years he was able to impose himself as one of the most important players on the team and scored a total of 61 league goals for Crystal Palace.

In the summer of 2002, Premier League promoted Birmingham City bought him for £ 4.25 million from the Londoners. In his first season at Birmingham, he managed to fit into the team quickly and with six league goals in 27 games to become the team's best scorer. Despite the low goals of the Birmingham - with 41 league goals, the third worst value that season - Morrison placed with the team in 13th place and secured relegation. The following season was finished in 10th place, but Morrison scored only four goals in 32 games and fell well behind the newcomer from Mönchengladbach Mikael Forssell , who contributed 17 league goals .

Also in the 2004/05 season Morrison was able to hold with Birmingham in the top English division, but transferred back to his youth club Crystal Palace in the summer of 2005 . He finished the following three years as the team's top scorer. On April 12, 2008 he also scored his 100th league goal for Crystal Palace in the game against Scunthorpe United .

In the summer of 2008, however, Morrison signed a contract with Coventry City and thus joined the Sky Blues . He was also able to secure a regular place at Coventry and was one of the team's most dangerous attackers.

In July 2010, after Coventry City did not offer him a new contract, he signed a two-year contract with third division club Sheffield Wednesday .

National team

Clinton Morrison made his debut for the Irish national football team in 2001 . After he scored a goal in the first three games, he was called up in the Irish selection for the 2002 World Cup , but was not used in any of the four World Cup games. In the following four years he received regular bids for the Irish national team and was able to achieve a total of nine goals. His last squad followed in 2006, and since then he has not been nominated for an international match for Ireland.
