Andrew "Andy" Johnson (born February 10, 1981 in Bedford ) is a former English football player . The striker made eight international appearances for England's senior team between 2005 and 2007 .

Career

society

Johnson began his career at Birmingham City . In 1997 he joined the club's professional squad. There he developed and worked regularly. 2001 succeeded with Birmingham the entry into the final of the League Cup against the league rivals Liverpool FC . After 90 minutes and extra time the score was 1-1 and the penalty shoot-out had to decide. Johnson missed the decisive penalty and the Blues had to leave the field as a loser.

After only a few more missions in the 2001/02 season, he decided to move. He was transferred to Crystal Palace in the summer of 2002 in an exchange deal for Clinton Morrison . On October 26, 2006, the striker managed a hat trick in a 5-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion . He quickly became a top performer and the public's favorite. In the 2003/04 season, Johnson was the top scorer with 32 goals in what was then the English First Division (now the Football League Championship ). In November of the same season, the team was in 20th place in the league. As a result, coach Steve Kember was fired and Iain Dowie was hired. Crystal Palace reached the playoffs and rose to the Premier League with a 1-0 win against West Ham United .

In the season 2004/05 Johnson was with 21 goals the best English goalscorer and second best in the total bill in the top English division. Despite his hits, Crystal Palace was relegated. Many clubs were interested in Johnson after relegation; however, he signed a new five-year contract with Crystal Palace. After another season in the second division, Johnson moved to Premier League club Everton for £ 8.6 million . Before he left, he was elected to Crystal Palace's eleven of the century. On August 19, 2006, he scored his first goal for the new employer. More goals followed and he won a regular place straight away. On November 6, 2007, Johnsen signed a new five-year contract. After a mixed 2007/08 season, critical voices were heard. In addition, minor injuries affected his performance.

In summer 2008 he moved to Fulham FC . The transfer is said to have been £ 10.5 million. He was the ninth entry of the "Cottagers" for the 2008/09 season.

For the 2012/13 season Johnson moved to Queens Park Rangers . He signed a two-year contract with the Super Hoops until June 30, 2014.

National team

Johnson was already nominated for England U-21 during the 1999 World Junior Cup . There he stood next to players like Stuart Taylor , Ashley Cole , Peter Crouch and Matthew Etherington on the field. All three games in the preliminary round were then lost.

After the good performance in the 2004/05 season, there were more calls that Johnson wanted to see in the English team . After he aroused the interest of the Poles , coach Sven-Göran Eriksson was forced to invite the striker. On February 9, 2005, he made his national team debut against the Netherlands when he came on against Wayne Rooney in the 61st minute . On an American tour in the summer of 2005, Johnson played over 90 minutes against the USA . He was not nominated for the 2006 World Cup . However, he was on call in the event that one of the colleagues was absent due to an injury.

With Steve McClaren as the new coach of the national team, he has now been given more attention again. McClaren used him in various qualifying games for the 2008 European Football Championship . However, the English team didn't manage to qualify for the finals in Austria and Switzerland.
