Carrow Road is a football stadium in Norwich . The Norwich City football club , which currently plays in the Premier League , plays its home games here. Today it has a capacity of 27,244 covered seats.

history

The Carrow Road is the third venue of Norwich City since its founding in 1902. By 1908 joined Norwich in Newmarket Road to. After a dispute over the rental conditions, the association moved to Rosary Road, including the stands, by horse and cart in 1908 . The stadium there got the nickname The Nest based on the nickname of the club The Canaries ( German : The Canaries). Although The Nest kept expanding, the stadium had become too small for the club's needs over time. On June 11, 1935, construction began on the new home on Carrow Road . After only 82 days, the new venue was built and on August 31, the first game took place there against West Ham United (4-3). The first floodlights were built in 1956 for around £ 9,000 , which almost drove the club to ruin at the time.

Since the late 1970s, the stadium has been gradually equipped with new stands. First renovations took place in 1979 at the Norwich & Peterborough stand . In 1986, the new Geoffrey Watling City Stand was inaugurated. The Barclay End , built in 1937, was demolished and renewed in 1992. The Jarrold booth is the newest grandstand tier on Carrow Road. It was built in 2004 and houses u. a. the guest fans. The Holiday Inn has been located in the corner between Barclay and Jarrold since 2007 . Some rooms have a view of the stadium. In the corner between Jarrold and Norwich & Peterborough is the Aviva Community Stand, which was completed in 2005 . The stadium corner offers u. a. Places for disabled visitors.

The stadium's record attendance dates back to 1963, when 43,984 people watched the FA Cup match between Norwich City and Leicester City (0-2). After the conversion of the English stadiums in the aftermath of the Hillsborough disaster and the resulting Taylor Report , the stadium only has seats and can therefore hold 26,304 spectators.

The record attendance after the redesign was set on November 29, 2015 in the Premier League match against Arsenal FC with 27,091 visitors.

Other use

The English national soccer team has not yet played a game in the Norwich stadium. But there have already been some international matches for English teams such as the women's national team , the men's U21s and the men's U19s on Carrow Road . The sports facility is also the venue for music concerts, for example by Elton John , Status Quo or George Michael .

Facilities in the stadium

Inside the stadium is the Norwich City fan shop called Norwich Superstore . For the physical well-being of the visitors there are several restaurants in the stadium such as B. the yellows in the style of an American diner . It is located at the Norwich & Peterborough stand; just like Delia's Restaurant and Bar . The stadium's catering is designed for a wide variety of events such as B. Conferences, exhibitions, seminars, weddings and celebrations.
