The St. Andrew's Stadium (through sponsorship agreement officially since June 2018 St. Andrew's quintillion Trophy Stadium after the club owner quintillion Trophy Asia ) is a football stadium in the English city of Birmingham , UK . The football club Birmingham City is the owner and main user. It seats 29,409 spectators.
history
The original stadium was built in 1905, had a capacity of over 75,000 and opened on December 26, 1906 with a 1906/07 Football League First Division match between Birmingham City and Middlesbrough FC . The facility was badly damaged during the Second World War and rebuilt in the early 1950s. In October 1956, the first game under floodlights was played with a 3-3 draw against Borussia Dortmund . From 1993 onwards, the venue was completely renovated and modernized, including converting it into a complete seating arena. After the renovations were completed, it offered space for just over 30,000 visitors.
The Tilton Road End with the Spion Kop stretches around one long and one rear goal side around the pitch like a single large grandstand . The second new grandstand, the Railway End , opened in February 1999. It is a large, two-tier building that appears unusual due to its narrow upper tier, the Olympic Gallery . This protrudes into the air space above the lower tier. There is also a row of boxes on this grandstand, behind the upper rows of seats in the lower tier. Only one old grandstand (built in 1952) remains from the old days: the Main Stand along the sidelines.
In the 2019/20 EFL League One season , Coventry City football club plays its home games at St. Andrew's Stadium.
Visitor records and average attendance
