The AESSEAL® New York Stadium is a football stadium in the English town of Rotherham , South Yorkshire , United Kingdom . At the start of the 2012/13 Football League Two season , the £ 17 million  construction was completed. In the first game on July 21, 2012, Rotherham United beat Barnsley FC 2-1 goals. The first league game played Rotherham on August 18, 2012 against Burton Albion . The game was followed by 11,441 spectators in the stadium and saw the hosts win 3-0.

history

After the club had to leave its traditional Millmoor venue after more than 100 years, as negotiations with the landowner were unsuccessful, the Millers moved to the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield for the 2008/09 season . The building permit for the new arena was granted in November 2010; in March 2011, Rotherham United presented their plans for the stadium. Then the groundbreaking ceremony took place on July 16, 2011 on the site of the old Guest & Chrimes foundry . The name of the venue was announced by the chairman Tony Stewart together with the Rotherham-born referee Howard Webb in December 2011. The name prevailed in an election against The Foundry ( German  Die Gießerei ) and Waterfront Stadium (German Ufer Stadion ). The Foundry Guest & Chrimes manufactured for the city of New York a . a. Hydrants , pipes and gas lines as well as gas and water meters .

The stadium on the banks of the River Don offers 12,021 covered seats (including 120 handicapped-accessible seats); the capacity could be increased to 16,000 visitors if necessary by expanding the north and south stands. In contrast to the other tiers, the main grandstand in the west has two levels. Large-area polycarbonate elements are integrated into the roof structure in order to ensure better sunlight for the natural turf play area. Various rooms and suites are available in the stadium for conferences , weddings , banquets , Christmas parties and events.

In November 2014, Rotherham-based AESSEAL  plc , manufacturer u. a. of mechanical seals , name sponsor of the Millers' venue for five years until summer 2019 . The venue was officially named AESSEAL New York Stadium for the first time on December 26, 2014 ( Boxing Day ) during the game of the Football League Championship against Huddersfield Town .
