history

The sports facility was built in 1904 on an area that belonged to the Brentford-based, internationally known brewery Fuller's Brewery . The new stadium Griffin Park was named after their brand logo, a griffin .

The sports complex has four covered grandstands named after the surrounding streets and bearing Braemar Road , New Road , Ealing Road and Brook Road (in 2007 New Road was named in honor of a supporter who regularly attended Brentford FC home games for 89 years. renamed Bill Axbey Stand ). The reserve and youth teams of Chelsea FC have also been using the stadium since 2007 .

The Griffin Park lies in the approach path of the London Heathrow Airport , so the association markets the grandstand roofs as large advertising space. The airlines Qatar Airways , KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and easyJet, among others, have already used the roofs as advertising space.

The Brentford Community Stadium is currently under construction as a venue for Brentford FC and rugby union club London Irish . Completion is planned for summer 2020. After the move, the stadium will be demolished.

On July 29, 2020, the last game took place at Griffin Park. The Brentford FC defeated Swansea City in the play-off after a 0: 1 first-leg deficit with a 3: 1 and meets in the final at Wembley Stadium on Fulham . Should Brentford win the game, they would be promoted to the Premier League 2020/21 and start in the top division with the new stadium.
