history

Grandstand of Töölön Pallokenttä (June 2007)

Töölön Pallokenttä was inaugurated in 1915 and was the first football stadium in Finland. Initially the facility was privately run, from 1939 the city of Helsinki took over the maintenance of the facility. On February 23, 1919, the Finnish men's bandynational team met Sweden in an international match in Töölön Pallokenttä . The Finns won the game 4-1 against the neighboring country. Between 1929 and 1947 the home games of the Finnish national soccer team were played at the men's Nordic soccer championships in Töölön Pallokenttä. From 1934 to 1938, the Olympic Stadium was built east of the stadium . From 1948 the games of the Nordic football championship took place mainly in the Olympic Stadium. In 1952 the venue was one of the five venues for the Olympic soccer tournament . On October 17, 1981, the final of the Finnish Football Cup between the HJK Helsinki and Kuusysi Lahti took place. The 5,063 spectators saw a 4-0 victory for the HJK. Between 1999 and 2000, the then Finnair Stadium with around 10,000 seats was built directly behind the north side of Töölön Pallokenttä . The multi-purpose hall Helsingin Jäähalli , which was inaugurated in 1967 and is mainly used for ice hockey , also belongs to the entire complex . The last renovation of the Bollis was carried out from 2000 to 2001.
