The Dongdaemun Stadium was a football stadium in the South Korean city of Seoul . In 2008 it was demolished for the Dongdaemun History & Culture Park .

The groundbreaking ceremony for the stadium took place on May 24, 1925. It was opened on October 15, 1925. The stadium was used for various events and clubs. In 1975 the stadium was used as a venue for the Asian Athletics Championships . In 1983 the stadium was used to host the K League . Five years later the stadium was used for the 1988 Summer Olympics .

Between 1990 and 1995 the stadium was home to three professional clubs from the K League: Ilhwa Chunma , LG Cheetahs and Yukong Elephants . During this time, the Dongdaemun Derby came into being . After moving out, the stadium was no longer used. In 2003 the stadium was closed and in 2008 the stadium for the Dongdaemun History & Culture Park was demolished.
