The Estadio La Romareda is a football stadium in the Spanish city ​​of Saragossa , Aragon . It is the home of the Real Zaragoza football club . It has 34,596 seats for spectators. In the 2015/16 season , an average of 16,688 fans per game visited the stadium.

history

The stadium opened on September 8, 1957 with the game Real Zaragoza versus CA Osasuna . At that time the hosts won 4: 3. So far, renovations have been carried out three times (1978, 1982, 1994). In 1982 the stadium was expanded for the soccer World Cup in order to comply with FIFA guidelines. There were three preliminary round matches in Saragossa. During the football tournament of the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona , the stadium was also the venue for five preliminary round matches and a quarter-finals. In 1994 all standing places were replaced by seats.

The stadium was also used for open air concerts (e.g. Michael Jackson 1996, Bruce Springsteen 1999 and Metallica 2004).
