Venue of the 1992 Summer Olympics |
The Canal Olímpic de Catalunya ( Spanish Canal Olímpico de Cataluña ) is an artificial lake in the Spanish municipality of Castelldefels , which has been used as a regatta course for canoeing and recreation since 1991 .
history
The Canal Olímpic de Catalunya was built for the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona in the town of Castelldefels as the Canal Olímpic de Castelldefels . This lies on the delta of the Llobregat River and is about 20 kilometers southwest of downtown Barcelona.
The twelve canoe racing events at the 1992 Summer Olympics were held on the regatta course. The rowing competitions, however, took place on the Estany de Banyoles , the canoe slalom in La Seu d'Urgell .
properties
The Canal Olímpic de Catalunya has a basin 1200 m long and 120 m wide.
Nine lanes can be divided into canoe competitions with an Albano system .
The system does not meet the requirements of category A of the World Rowing Association FISA and is therefore unsuitable for international rowing regattas : In addition to the lack of a separate training channel, the length of the route is less than the required two kilometers.
The main stand in the finish area of the Canal Olímpic de Catalunya has a capacity of 500 seats.
