The Velodrome d'Horta Miquel Poblet is an open velodrome in Barcelona , Catalonia , Spain , also known as Velodrome in Vall d'Hebron is called. It was the venue for the UCI track world championships , which took place from August 28 to 31, 1984, as well as the track cycling races at the 1992 Summer Olympics .

The Velòdrom d'Horta was designed by the architects Esteve Bonell and Francesc Rius and erected in 1984 before the bid for the Olympic Games. The location is the Vall d'Hebron , where other sports facilities were created for the Olympic Games, such as the archery range and tennis courts .

The train itself was planned by the Münster architect Herbert Schürmann . It was the first to be created according to the new regulations of the International Amateur Cycling Federation (FIAC), according to which the prescribed length had been reduced from 333 1/3 meters to 250 meters. In 1985 the building received an award from Fostering Arts and Design (FAD).

After extensive renovation and reopening, the Velodrom, which was originally only called Velòdrom d'Horta , was renamed Velòdrom d'Horta Miquel Poblet in 2015 . Poblet , a popular cyclist from Barcelona, was internationally successful and multiple Spanish champion. He died in 2013.

The building is divided into two floors, which use and compensate for the differences in height of the site. On the upper floor there is the cycling track with a covering made of Afzelia hardwood from Cameroon and the stands for the spectators. The four-meter-wide building shell that surrounds the open-air arena contains service areas for spectators, cafes, sanitary facilities and stairs. In the basement there are rooms for the athletes, storage rooms and the press area. In addition to the construction of the velodrome itself, the architects were commissioned to develop the four-hectare outdoor area and redesign the embankments.
