Miguel Poblet Orriols (born March 18, 1928 in Montcada i Reixac , † April 6, 2013 in Barcelona ) was a Spanish cyclist .

From 1945 to 1962, Miguel Poblet was a professional racing driver and during these years he set special standards in Spanish cycling, as he was extremely successful not only on the road but also on the track . During his cycling career, he was seven times Spanish champion in track sprint and twice mountain champion, but also started successfully in all major tours, in which he won numerous stage wins, as well as in classics . In 1947 he won the Klasika Primavera , 1952 the Tour of Catalonia , 1955 the Grand Prix Midi Libre , 1957 Milan – Turin , 1957 and 1959 Milan – Sanremo and 1960 the Classica Sarda . In 1958 he finished second in the Lombardy Tour . He also won many smaller races.

Poblet competed in the Tour de France three times - in 1955, 1956 and 1957 : in 1955 he won a stage, wore the yellow jersey for two days , won the mountain classification at the Col du Tourmalet , came third in the points classification and reached Paris 26th overall . In 1956 he won another stage, but then gave up, also in 1957 . He was particularly successful in his participation in the Giro d'Italia : in 1956 he won four stages, in 1957 he also won four stages and was sixth overall, in 1958 he won three stages, in 1959 again three stages and finished sixth, in 1961 he won three stages and carried Maglia Rosa for six days .

With three stage wins at the Vuelta a España in 1956 , Poblet was the first driver ever to win stages in all three major tours (Giro d'Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta a España) within a year. Apart from Poblet, only Pierino Baffi in 1958 and Alessandro Petacchi in 2003 have succeeded in this so far (as of July 2018) .

Miguel Poblet also started in 14 six-day races, of which he won three: 1953 in Barcelona with Ferdinando Terruzzi , 1961 in Buenos Aires with Jorge Bátiz and 1962 in Madrid with Miguel Bover Pons . He celebrated his last victory as a professional in the summer of 1962 when he was again Spanish champion in the track sprint. Then he ended his cycling career.

After retiring from active cycling, Poblet was chairman of the Catalan Cycling Federation and was involved in organizing the Tour of Catalonia .

On April 6, 2013, Poblet died of kidney failure in a hospital in Barcelona at the age of 85 .
