Filippo "Pippo" Pozzato (born September 10, 1981 in Sandrigo ) is a former Italian cyclist .

Career

Pozzato was established in 2000 Driver when cycling team Mapei-Quick Step . He developed into a specialist for one-day races and shorter stage races , who was particularly successful in the sprint of the front field of difficult races.

His most important victories included the overall ranking at Tirreno-Adriatico in 2003, one stage each in the Tour de France in 2004 and 2007 , a stage win at the Giro d'Italia in 2010 , the HEW Cyclassics in 2005, the classic Milan-San Remo in 2006 , the semi-classic Omloop Het Volk 2007 and the Grand Prix Ouest France 2013. He was also runner-up in Milan-Sanremo in 2008, Paris-Roubaix in 2009 and the Tour of Flanders in 2012 and fourth in the road race at the 2010 World Championships .

In the course of the doping investigation by the Public Prosecutor of Padua , he confessed to contacts with the controversial sports doctor Michele Ferrari and was therefore banned for three months in 2012.

At the end of the 2018 season, Pozzato announced his retirement from competitive cycling due to motivation problems. In the future, he wanted to support the young drivers Continental Teams Beltrami-Tsa , manage a car dealership in Monte Carlo and play roller hockey for a second division team in Bassano del Grappa (he was involved in this sport in his youth).
