Tirreno-Adriatico
The Tirreno – Adriatico cycle race , also known as the race between the seas , is a week-long Italian stage race that is held annually in March.
The race was part of the UCI ProTour introduced in 2005 , a series of the most important competitions in cycling. Since 2011 the race has been part of the successor series UCI WorldTour .
The journey between the western Italian Tyrrhenian coast and the eastern Italian Adriatic coast is considered a good preparation for the classic Milan – San Remo .
It has now firmly established itself alongside the Paris – Nice stage race that is being held at the same time . The record winner is the Belgian Roger De Vlaeminck , who won the race six times in a row between 1972 and 1977.
The edition planned for March 2020 has been canceled due to regulatory requirements in connection with the spread of COVID-19 in Italy . The organizer said he would try to catch up on the races at another time.
