Athletic career

As an amateur, Zandegu achieved his greatest sporting success: World champion in the 100 km team race in 1962 in front of a home crowd in Salo - a year later he became vice world champion with the Italian four-man road and competed in the Tour de l'Avenir.

His nickname was Il Cantante , the singing sprinter , because he sang a song after every victory on the podium. During the Tour of Flanders , which he won in 1967, it rained heavily, but that didn't stop him from singing O Sole Mio.
