Nick Nuyens (born May 5, 1980 in Lier ) is a former Belgian cyclist . His greatest achievement was winning the Tour of Flanders in 2011.

Career

Nuyens was a pro at Quick Step from 2003 . His nicknames are the Bom van Bevel , Kabouter and Sluipschutter . At the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven he received his diploma in communication science . He was an excellent cobblestone driver. As a junior he won the Tour of Flanders in 2002 and became Belgian champion.

As a professional he later won the two traditional Belgian classics Omloop Het Volk and Kuurne – Brussels – Kuurne , but he has also been successful in stages or in the overall standings in smaller stage races in Europe such as the Ster Elektrotoer in the Netherlands . From 2007 to 2008 Nuyens drove for the French UCI ProTeam Cofidis and since 2009 for the Rabobank team . For the 2011 season Nuyens moved to the Danish team Saxo Bank SunGard . This year he surprisingly won the Tour of Flanders in front of Sylvain Chavanel and Fabian Cancellara and thus achieved his greatest success to date.

He ended his career at the end of the 2014 season.
