Gianluca Bortolami (born August 28, 1968 in Locate di Triulzi ) is a former Italian cyclist .
Athletic career
In 1986, Gianluca Bortolami attracted international attention with two medals at the Junior World Track Championships : in the single pursuit he won silver and in the team pursuit together with David Solari , Fabio Baldato and endrio Leoni bronze. In the same year he won the Giro della Lunigiana (juniors).
In 1990 Bortolami received his first elite contract and remained active until 2005. During these years he competed seven times in the Tour de France ; his best single placement was 13th in 1994 . In the same event, he also decided a stage for himself.
Bortolami's other successes include winning the Tour of Piedmont in 1997, winning the Tour of Flanders in 2001 and a stage win in the Tour de Suisse in the same year. In 2002 he won the mountain classification of the Deutschland Tour and in 2004 the Giro di Romagna tour . In 1994 he won the World Cup .
Because of an inflammation of the heart muscle , Gianluca Bortolami ended his active cycling career in 2006 at the age of 37.
doping
As part of the trial against Dr. Michele Ferrari confessed to Bortolami in 1998 that she had been doping with Epo . In 2003, he retracted the confession because it had been forced to do so. In 2003 he was tested positive by De Panne in the Three Days race and banned from the Italian Cycling Federation for six months because of doping .
