Steffen Wesemann (born March 11, 1971 in Wolmirstedt ) is a former cyclist .
Career
He won his first championship title in 1988 in the youth A class team time trial at the championship championships of the GDR Cycling Association . Wesemann started his professional career after victories at the Lower Saxony Tour and the Peace Tour in 1993 with the German cycling team Telekom , where he was employed until the end of 2006.
Wesemann was considered a classic specialist , as he was most successful in the spring races in Belgium and France . But also shorter stage races suited him, so he was the only driver to win the peace race five times. His greatest success was winning the 2004 Tour of Flanders in the sprint of a three-man leading group.
Wesemann has been a Swiss citizen since September 19, 2005. He gave up his German citizenship and started at the 2005 road cycling world championship for the Swiss national team.
In 2007 he reached third place in the Paris – Roubaix race . He was able to take part in the race with his second-class Wiesenhof-Felt team due to a wildcard .
In the 2008 season Wesemann drove for Cycle Collstrop . After the season he ended his active career. He later worked as a truck driver.
