from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Louis Duerloo (born July 7, 1910 in Essen , † September 30, 1977 in Mijas ) was a Belgian cyclist .

Louis Duerloo was a professional racing driver from 1932 to 1938. When he became Belgian road racing champion in 1933 at the age of 23, it was seen as a “generation change” and initially as a surprising chance victory. However, other victories, especially winning the Tour of Flanders in 1935, confirmed its quality.

A protracted knee injury and the early death of his wife prompted Duerloo to give up his cycling career at the age of 28. He then became a forester in Kalmthout . In 1977 he drowned in the Mediterranean while on vacation in southern Spain .
