from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alois Vansteenkiste (born May 4, 1928 in Heule , † September 27, 1991 in Kortrijk ) was a Belgian cyclist .

Alois Vansteenkiste had only a few successes until he surprisingly became Belgian road racing champion in 1953. After the race he vomited badly and had to see a doctor. This suspected him of doping ; Vansteenkiste said he was served a suspicious drink during the race. Vansteenkiste's health was subsequently ruined, he followed in other races and he developed kidney problems. At the end of 1953 he ended his career.

Vansteenkiste then opened the “De Ster” café in Lauwe , which he ran until his death and which still exists today.
