Jürgen Roelandts (born July 2, 1985 in Asse ) is a Belgian racing cyclist .
Athletic career
In 2002 Roelandts was Belgian champion in the junior road race. He finished third in the time trial, as he did in 2003. In 2004, Roelandts joined the Belgian youth team Jong Vlaanderen . In his first season there he was able to win a stage in the Tour de Namur, where he was also successful in 2006. In 2006, he also won a stage in the Tour of Normandy and in the Tour du Loir-et-Cher . In 2007 he was successful on a section of the Ronde van Vlaams-Brabant and he won the U23 event of the French classic Paris-Tours .
He received his first contract with a UCI ProTeam in 2008 with the Belgian team Silence-Lotto . That year he became the Belgian road champion and won a stage of the Tour of Poland in 2008 and thus a ProTour competition for the first time . He also won the overall ranking of the Circuit Franco-Belge in 2008 . 2012, Roelandts broke during the Tour Down Under in a fall the cervical vertebrae. That same year finished seventh in the road race of the Olympic Games in London and won the Circuit Franco-Belge for the second time.
At the Monument of Cycling Tour of Flanders , Roelandts took third place in 2013, 1:29 minutes behind the winner Fabian Cancellara and just behind Peter Sagan . He was also third in the mass sprint near Milan-Sanremo 2016 behind Arnaud Démare and Ben Swift . In 2018 he finished fifth at Milan-Sanremo.
