Benjamin Ian Swift (born November 5, 1987 in Rotherham ) is a British track and road cyclist .
Athletic career
From the beginning of his cycling career, Ben Swift was equally successful on the road and track. In 2004 he became the British junior championship points race on the track. In 2006 he was national runner-up in the team pursuit and in 2007 U23 European champion in the same discipline. On the road, he won a stage of the Giro delle Regioni in 2007 and got a place as a stagiaire with the Professional Continental Team Barloworld . In 2008 he was fourth in the road race of the U23 at the road world championships, as well as at the European championships. He could not finish the road race at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing .
Between 2008 and 2011 Swift won several stages in tours , in 2010 he won the Tour de Picardie and in 2011 a stage of the Tour de Romandie . From 2009 he started in six major country tours , his best placement was Rand 83 at the Tour de France 2017 .
At the UCI Track World Championships in Melbourne in 2012 , Swift won three medals: one gold in the scratch and one silver in the points race and, together with Geraint Thomas, in the two-man team race ; then he mainly started on the road. In the same year he won two stages of the Tour of Poland . In 2014 and 2015 he was successful on a stage of the Settimana Internazionale , and in 2014 with his team in the team time trial . In 2014 he took third place at Milan-Sanremo and in 2016 second place.
In 2017, Ben Swift finished fifth in the road race at the World Road Championships in Bergen, Norway . In 2019, Swift became the British road racing champion.
