The 67th Vuelta a España took place from August 18, 2012 to September 9, 2012. It was 3,282 km long in total. It was won by the Spanish professional cyclist Alberto Contador .
The three-week Spanish tour consisted of 21 stages and started in Pamplona with a team time trial of 16.2 kilometers. A total of ten mountain stages , five of which were mountain arrivals , and nine flat stages took place. In addition, an individual time trial over 40.0 km from Cambados to Pontevedra was held. That the 2012 UCI World Tour scoring stage race ended on 9 September 2012 in Madrid .
Teams
According to the regulations of the UCI WorldTour , the 18 ProTeams were entitled and obliged to participate. Since the number of drivers per team was limited to nine and the total number of participants was limited to 200, the organizer invited four Professional Continental Teams via wildcards .
