Dario Cataldo (born March 17, 1985 in Lanciano ) is an Italian racing cyclist .

Athletic career

In 2006 Dario Cataldo won the overall ranking of the U25 edition of the Giro d'Italia , the Giro Ciclistico d'Italia . In 2007 Cataldo switched to the Italian ProTeam Liquigas-Bianchi and won a stage of the Settimana Ciclistica Lombarda for this team . In 2012 he became Italian champion in the individual time trial . In the same year, he achieved his greatest career success to date with the victory on the mountain finish of the 16th stage of the Vuelta a España 2012 . His best placements in the Grand Tours came from the Giro d'Italia, which he finished thirteenth in 2011 , twelfth in 2012 and fourteenth in 2017 .

Because Cataldo is a good draftsman and painter, he was nicknamed Picasso in the peloton .
