The 2017 Tour de France was the 104th staging of the most important stage race in road cycling . The Grand Départ took place on July 1, 2017 for the first time in the history of the Tour de France in Düsseldorf with a 13-kilometer individual time trial . This marked the fourth time after 1965 in Cologne, 1980 in Frankfurt am Main and 1987 in West Berlin in Germany.

The overall winner of the tour was Chris Froome for the fourth time , 54 seconds ahead of Rigoberto Urán and 2:20 minutes ahead of Romain Bardet . Froome's Team Sky also won the team championship .

Froome's team-mate Geraint Thomas won the opening time trial in Düsseldorf and lost his yellow jersey to Froome at the first mountain finish of the 5th stage to Planche des Belles Filles , where Fabio Aru won. Although Froome lost the overall lead on the 12th stage to Aru because he could no longer follow the day's winner Bardet and the other favorites on the steep finish slope, he regained the overall lead at the finish of the 14th stage because the poorly placed Aru in arrived at the rear of the peloton . After the two Alpine stages, the 17th stage to Serre Chevalier and the 18th stage on the Col d'Izoard , Froome, Bardet and Uran were only 29 seconds apart, so the individual time trial on the penultimate day brought the decision.

The most successful stage hunter was Marcel Kittel , who won the second , sixth , seventh , tenth and eleventh stage in a mass sprint. After Kittel had to give up the race after a fall on the 17th stage, Michael Matthews took over the green jersey and finally won the points classification. Matthews also won the hilly 14th and 16th stages in the sprint of the front field.

His teammate in Team Sunweb , Warren Barguil , finished tenth overall and won two mountain stages : the 13th stage in the sprint of a four-man leading group and the mountain finish of the 18th stage as a soloist. He also won the mountain classification and was honored as the most combative driver of the Tour de France 2017.

Simon Yates finished seventh overall, winning the junior ranking, succeeding his twin brother Adam Yates , who won the 2016 white jersey .

After the opening time trial, the second stage also started in the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia . This led from the start in Düsseldorf's old town to the Grafenberg Forest , where a mountain classification took place, then to the Neandertal and the Mettmann district before the field of participants returned to Düsseldorf. After a sprint classification in Mönchengladbach , Germany left Germany west of Aachen and the route ran to its destination in Liège on Belgian territory.

Since September 18, 2016, interested parties have had the opportunity to explore the second stage as part of a public test drive.

Regulations

There were only minor changes compared to the 2016 Tour de France.

Overall rating

The leader of the overall standings wears the yellow jersey . The order of the ranking results from the time intervals between the individual drivers after each stage. In addition, at the finish of each stage, apart from the time trials, there are time credits of 10, 6 and 4 seconds for the first three drivers. If an accident or a defect occurs within the last 3 km, the riders involved are scored with the same time as the group to which they belonged at the time of the fall / defect - except for individual time trials and mountain climbs.

Scoring

The leader of the points classification wears the green jersey ( maillot vert ). Based on the category of the respective stage, the points are awarded as follows:

  • Stage arrivals:
    • eight flat stages: 50, 30, 20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3 and 2 points for the first 15 riders at the finish
    • Six low mountain ranges: 30, 25, 22, 19, 17, 15, 13, 11, 9, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3 and 2 points for the first 15
    • five high mountain stages and two individual time trials: 20, 17, 15, 13, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and one point for the first ten
  • Intermediate sprints: 20, 17, 15, 13, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and a point for the first 15
Mountain scoring

The leader of the mountain classification wears the dotted jersey ( maillot à pois ). The award of the points depends on the difficulty of the 53 climbs in five categories. At this year's only mountain arrival of the Hors Catégorie (HC) - the Col d'Izoard on the 18th stage - double the number of points will be awarded.

  • seven climbs in the HC category: 20, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4 and 2 points for the first eight drivers in the mountain classification
  • eleven mountains of the first category: 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and one point for the first six
  • five mountains of the second category: 5, 3, 2 and a point for the first four
  • 14 climbs of the third category: 2 and one point for the first two
  • 16 climbs of the fourth category: one point for the first
Young talent evaluation

The leader of the junior competition wears the white jersey ( maillot blanc ). All drivers born after January 1st, 1992 compete for the white jersey of the best young professional. The order results from the placement of these drivers in the overall ranking.

Team ranking

The drivers of the leading team in the team classification each wear a yellow number on the back . For this evaluation, the time of the best three drivers of a team is added up at each stage.

Most combative driver

The most combative driver of a stage will be awarded the red number by a jury . At the end of the tour, the most combative driver of the entire tour will be chosen in Paris. There is no award in either time trial or in the final stage.

Special Price

The souvenir Henri Desgrange is given to the first rider on the Col du Galibier ( 17th stage ).
