Race course

Initially, a 7-man escape group around Pierre Rolland (France / Cannondale Drapac) determined the race. With 100 kilometers to go, the group had a five-minute lead. 60 kilometers from the finish line, Silvan Dillier (Switzerland / BMC), Paul Martens (Germany / LottoNL), Petr Vakoč (Czech Republic / Quick Step), Dries Devenyns (Belgium / Quick Step) and Tao Geoghegan Hart (Great Britain / Sky) attacked from the Field out. 50 kilometers from the finish, the five drivers caught up with the others and still had a lead of around 40 seconds. It took up to 10 kilometers before the finish line until all of the outliers from the group of 12 were caught, the last being Dillier and Devenyns. After all other attacks failed, including last year's runner-up Alberto Bettiol (Italy / Cannondale Drapac), a group of over 60 people sprinted. Elia Viviani (Italy / Sky) won this sprint ahead of Alexander Kristoff (Norway / Katusha Alpecin).
