The UCI WorldTour 2017 included 37 cycling races on four continents , including the three-week tours Tour de France , Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España ( Grand Tours ), as well as important classics , including the five monuments of cycling Milan-Sanremo , Tour of Flanders , Paris – Roubaix , Liège – Bastogne – Liège and Giro di Lombardia . The competitions took place from January to October 2017.

The individual winner was Greg Van Avermaet with 3,582 points ahead of Chris Froome (3,452 points) and Tom Dumoulin (2,545 points). The teams that won Team Sky with 12,806 points ahead of Quick-Step floors (12,652 pts.) And the BMC Racing Team (10961 pts.). For the individual evaluation, the world ranking points achieved by drivers of the WorldTeams in WorldTour races were added. For the team classification , the points of all drivers of a WorldTeam were added. There are also between 500 and 25 points for the first 25 teams in the team time trial of the UCI Road World Championships 2017 .

After a fundamental agreement on the regulations between the UCI and the racing organizers, in particular the organizer of the Tour de France, the Amaury Sport Organization , which had previously threatened to withdraw from the WorldTour, the 2017 series racing calendar was announced in August 2016. Compared to 2016, ten other competitions were awarded WorldTour status. The Tour of Qatar , which was newly added to the calendar , was canceled in December 2016. The tour of Turkey, also newly added to the calendar, was originally planned for April 18-23, 2017 and was postponed to October 10-15 at the request of the organizer.

The specially licensed UCI WorldTeams , who are obliged to start all races that were already on the calendar in 2016, were entitled to start. UCI Professional Continental Teams can also be invited by the respective race organizer. A national team from the host country is also eligible to participate with the approval of the Professional Cycling Council .

After originally only 17 WorldTeam licenses were to be awarded, the UCI Professional Cycling Council decided on November 8, 2016 that a maximum of 18 licenses can be awarded. It was also determined that the point scales of the world rankings should also apply to the rankings of the UCI WorldTour and that the nation ranking of the WorldTour will be abolished. Finally, it was determined that the ten new WorldTour competitions would have to invite all WorldTeams, but that they had no start obligation.
