Simon Špilak (born June 23, 1986 in Tišina ) is a former Slovenian cyclist . He was considered a specialist in shorter stage races .
Career
Simon Špilak won the bronze medal in the junior road race behind Roman Kreuziger and Rafaâ Chtioui at the 2004 road cycling world championships in Verona . At the 2006 road cycling world championships in Salzburg he was eighth in the U23 individual time trial . Also in 2006, Spilak won its first international competition with the one-day Poreč Trophy .
Spilak received his first contract with a UCI ProTeam from the 2008 season and achieved his greatest success for this team with the overall victory of the UCI ProTour stage race Tour de Romandie 2010 , in which he also won the fourth stage as a soloist.
For the 2012 season Spilak switched to the Katusha team . Twice he won the UCI World Tour -Rundfahrt Tour de Suisse : In the 2015 Tour de Suisse , he took over the overall lead in the final time trial. After Spilak took the overall lead on the seventh stage of the Tour de Suisse 2017 with a solo victory on the mountain finish on the Tiefenbachferner , he secured the overall victory in the final time trial, in which he distanced the other class riders.
At the end of the 2019 season, Spilak ended his active career.
