Nichibei-Fuji was founded in 1899 and initially imported bikes from the USA and England. The brand is named after the highest mountain in Japan, Mount Fuji . In the course of time, the company began producing its own bicycles and exported them to all of Asia from 1919. In the 1920s, riders with Fuji won various bike races in Japan. In the 1950s, Toshoku America, Inc. is founded, selling Fuji bikes exclusively in the USA. On the US market until the 1970s, Fuji wheels were offered by dealers under various names, such as Sears & Roebuck . However, Fuji opened its own branch in New York in 1971 and was the first Japanese company to launch wheels with its own name on the US market. During the same period, the first bike with the Shimano Dura-Ace top group was produced. A number of innovations, such as lighter chromoly frames, increased the brand's reputation in the USA.

In 1974 Fuji began promoting the US women's national team of cyclists as the “Fuji Suntour ” - ten years before women's cycling became an Olympic discipline . The company is the oldest sponsor of women's cycling.

Advanced Sports, Inc. was founded in the 1990s, taking over Fuji America and worldwide sales. The wheels are now made in Taiwan and Poland .
