Merida ( Chinese  美 利達 工業 股份有限公司 ) is a Taiwanese bicycle manufacturer . The headquarters of Merida Industry Co., LTD. is Yuanlin ( Changhua County ) in Taiwan . Merida had a brand value of $ 185 million as of 2008 and produced 72,000 bicycles per month.

history

The company was founded on September 29, 1972 by Ike Tseng. Merida started operations on July 10, 1973 with 57 employees. Only so-called Japanese "minibikes" were produced. Two years later, Merida expanded with the “Speed ​​Bikes” on the American market, BMX bikes were added, and later mountain bikes .

The first attempts to computerize production began in 1975. All production processes have been computer-controlled since 1980, and the storage system was also automated. In 1985 Merida began researching aluminum frames. Merida Germany was founded a year later. In 1992 Merida developed an automatic production of carbon fiber frames, in 1998 magnesium frames were developed. The findings are also incorporated into notebook housing production.

Cycling
