The Changhua County ( Han font彰化縣, W.-G. Changhua Hsien, Tongyong Jhanghuà Sian, PEH oē-jī Chiong-hoà koan) is a county in Taiwan . The capital is the city of Changhua .
The historically significant port city of Lukang is located in the northwest of the district . Its old town with a number of well-preserved temples is now a major tourist attraction.
location
Changhua County is located in the central part of western Taiwan. In the south, the Zhuoshui River forms the border with Yunlin County , while the northern border with Taichung City largely follows the Dadu River , on which the capital Changhua lies. Changhua County borders on Nantou County to the east and Formosa Road to the west .
The Changhua Plain , together with the Jianan Plain to the south, the largest plain in Taiwan, takes up the majority of the circle. With an area of 1074 km², Changhua County is the smallest of the 15 counties in Taiwan and, in contrast to most of the other counties in western Taiwan, does not extend into the central mountainous region of the island. There are only a few hills in its territory, most notably in the Bagua range of hills that extend along the border with Nantou County.
As a result, the entire district is relatively densely populated. With over 1200 inhabitants per km², Changhua County has the highest population density of all Taiwanese counties.
The north-south Highway 1 runs through Changhua County, as does the main line of the Taiwanese Railway , from which the Jiji Line , a branch line leading east to Nantou County, branches off at Ershui Station .
The Taiwanese high-speed train crosses Changhua County without stopping, but its Taichung Station is near the county border. In addition, a separate station in Changhua is being planned in the municipality of Tianzhong in the southeast of the district.
politics
The self-governing body of the district is the district council of the district Changhua ( Chinese 彰化 縣 議會 , Pinyin Zhānghuà Xiàn Yìhuì ), which has 54 members, who are elected for four years. In the 2014 election, the Kuomintang was the strongest party with 24 out of 54 seats.
cities and communes
The capital Changhua and the city of Yuanlin are the only cities ( 市 , Shì ) in the county. There are also seven municipalities ( 鎮 , Zhèn ) and 18 rural communities ( 鄉 , Xiāng ). The following table shows the population as of May 2018.
