UCI World Calendar 2010

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The UCI World Calendar and the associated World Ranking replaced the UCI ProTour in the 2009 and 2010 seasons . This still existed formally, but no points were awarded or rankings published. In addition to the 16 ProTour races, the 2010 World Calendar included 10 more such as B. the Tour de France , the Giro d'Italia or the Vuelta a España . These races were identified by their own category (HIS - Historic Races). Participants were the ProTeams . In addition, 17 Professional Continental Teams that had been granted wild card status by the UCI could be invited by the respective race organizer.

Teams

In an announcement on November 26th, 2009, the UCI licensed 17 teams as ProTeam 2010. The Astana team was only accepted on the condition that it provided a bank guarantee so that there would not be bottlenecks in the payment of salaries as in the previous season. In contrast, the Italian team Lampre was initially not allowed to start. On January 25, 2010, Lampre was granted a provisional license until March 31, 2010.

On June 1st, 2010 the UCI announced that after the suspension of Alejandro Valverde, all of his race results will be retrospectively taken out of the ranking from January 1st, 2010 and the points will be recalculated accordingly. As a result, Philippe Gilbert was subsequently declared overall leader after the Tour de Romandie and Cadel Evans took over the overall leadership after the Giro d'Italia in Valverde. This also resulted in some changes in the team ranking.
