The Cervélo TestTeam is a former Swiss cycling team .
history
Namesake and main sponsor was the Canadian bicycle manufacturer Cervélo . The team was operated by Cycling United GmbH based in Immensee . Theo Maucher headed the team as manager . Sports directors were Marcello Albasini , Jean-Paul van Poppel , Alexandre Sans , Philippe Mauduit and Jens Zemke .
Since 2009, the team has participated in cycling races as the Professional Continental Team . The sporting success was expressly not the top priority, because in addition to participating in important bike races, the riders tested new products and were thus actively involved in the development process at Cervélo. In addition to the winner of the Tour de France 2008 , Carlos Sastre , the team was also able to sign multiple Tour stage winner Thor Hushovd as well as Andreas Klier, a well-respected classic driver.
At the end of January 2009 the team was invited to take part in the big Italian spring races Tirreno – Adriatico , Milan – Sanremo and the Giro d'Italia . In March 2009, the team was able to compete in the Paris – Nice stage race , and it was invited to the 2009 Tour de France . In 2010 the team was invited to the Tour de France again .
At the end of the 2010 season, the Cervélo TestTeam withdrew from cycling as an independent team for financial reasons and merged with the Garmin-Transitions team to form the Garmin-Cervélo team .
