Roger Edward Hammond (born January 30, 1974 in Harlington ) is a former British cyclist and later sports director . As an active person he was active in cyclocross and road cycling .

Roger Hammond became Junior World Champion in cyclo-cross racing in 1992 . Between 1994 and 2008 he was eight times British champion in this discipline.

In 1998 Hammond got his first contract with an international cycling team , the Belgian team Palmans-Ideal . He developed into a specialist in classic one-day races . In 2003 and 2004 he was the first British road racing champion. Also in 2004 he finished third at Paris-Roubaix , and in the road race at the Olympic Games in Athens he came seventh. In 2005 and 2006 he won a stage of the Tour of Britain and in 2009 a stage of the Tour of Qatar . In 2007 he finished second at Gent – ​​Wevelgem and seventh at Paris-Roubaix. Hammond also started road racing at the 2008 Olympics , but did not finish.

In 2012 Hammond ended his active cycling career.

After his career as a racing cyclist, Hammond initially worked as the Sports Director of the British Continental Team Madison Genesis , before moving to the UCI WorldTeam Dimension Data in 2016 and leading Mark Cavendish to four stage wins at the 2016 Tour de France .
