Sid Barras

Sidney "Sid" Barras (born April 3, 1948 in Middlesbrough ) is a former English cyclist .

Athletic career

Sid Barras was a professional racing driver from 1970 to 1987. During this time he achieved around 380 victories, most of them in races in Great Britain . In 1979 he was British road racing champion, three times he won the Tom Simpson Memorial . He started several times at the UCI World Championships in road racing for the British national team, but finished the races only twice. He achieved his best result in 1972 in the French Gap with the 24th place.

In 2008 Barras became the British over 50s champion. In the same year he was third in the Masters Road World Championships in St. Johann in Tirol (59 to 61 years).

Professional

After finishing his active cycling career, Sid Barras worked as a sporting director.

Honors

In 2009 he was inducted into the British Cycling Hall of Fame .
