Rob Hayles

Robert Hayles (born January 21, 1973 in Portsmouth ) is a retired British cyclist .

On the road, Rob Hayles won the seventh stage of the Prudential Tour in 1999 . The next year he won a stage at the Circuit de Lorraine . He then switched to the French cycling team Cofidis , but could not celebrate any further successes there in three years. Only in 2004 did he win a stage in the Tour of Normandy . In 2005 and 2006 Hayles drove for the British Continental Team Recycling.co.uk .

Rob Hayles was more successful on the track than on the road. He won his first bronze medal at the 2000 track cycling world championships in the single pursuit. In 2003 and 2004 he was second with the national team in the team pursuit at the World Championships and in 2004 also second in the single pursuit. At the Olympic Games in Athens, the British were defeated by the Australians in the final and thus secured the silver medal. He also won the bronze medal in the Madison and was narrowly beaten fourth in the single pursuit. In the first year after the Olympics, he then managed for the first time to win the world title with the team and in the Madison. At the next world championships in Bordeaux he was runner-up for the third time. At the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne he won the silver medal in the singles pursuit and a gold in the team competition. Hayles achieved these successes with Bradley Wiggins , Chris Newton , Steve Cummings , Paul Manning , Bryan Steel and Geraint Thomas, among others .

At the end of the 2011 season he ended his career as a professional cyclist.
