Albert Torres Barceló (born April 26, 1990 in Ciutadella , Menorca ) is a Spanish cyclist who races on the road and track . He is the dominant Spanish cyclist in the endurance disciplines on the track.
Athletic career
In 2006 Albert Torres was the Spanish youth champion in the individual time trial . At the 2007 European Junior Championships in Cottbus , he finished third in the single pursuit . In 2008 Torres won the title of Spanish junior road racing champion and was second in the points race at the junior European championships in Pruszków , and in 2010 he was U23 road champion.
In 2011 Torres became the Spanish junior championship champions in points racing and champions of the elite in two-man team driving (with David Muntaner ) and in team pursuit (with David Muntaner, Jaime Alberto Muntaner and Vicente Pastor ). At the junior European championships, he again finished third in the pursuit. At the fourth round of the Track Cycling World Cup in London in 2011/12 , he won the points race. Together with Sebastián Mora , he finished fifth in the two-man team at the 2012 UCI Track World Championships in Melbourne .
In 2013 Torres and David Muntaner became vice world champion in two-man team driving in Minsk . Together with Sebastián Mora , he became European champion in the same discipline in 2015 . The following year he was able to defend his 2016 with Mora in the Madison and also won a second title in the Omnium . At the 2017 rail world championships , he was third in the Omnium. In 2018 he was again vice world champion in two-man team driving, this time with Sebastián Mora. The two drivers also won the Six Day Series finale in Palma . Torres won the Omnium at the Track World Cup in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines .
Private
On March 14, 2020, Albert Torres and his long-time girlfriend, the former cyclist María del Mar Bonnin Palou , planned to get married. The wedding and the celebration had to be canceled due to the corona pandemic .
