Gijs Van Hoecke (born November 12, 1991 in Gent ) is a Belgian cyclist .
Athletic career
In 2007, Gijs Van Hoecke became Belgian champion in two-man team driving for young people, with Moreno De Pauw . In 2008 he won four Belgian junior titles and was vice world champion in two-man team driving in Cape Town with Tosh Van der Sande . In 2009 he was again Belgian junior champion in the Omnium , won the Giro della Toscana and was junior vice world champion in two-man team driving in Moscow , together with Jochen Deweer . In 2010 he took second place in the Omnium at the European Junior Championships in Saint Petersburg .
At the UCI Track World Championships 2011 in Apeldoorn , Van Hoecke won bronze in the Omnium, although he had fallen in the elimination race , a sub-discipline of this all-around competition, and had clearly visible facial injuries. The following year he won the world title in two-man team driving with Kenny De Ketele . In the same year he won two medals at the U23 European Championships: a silver one with Jasper De Buyst in the two-man team and a bronze one in the team pursuit (with Joris Cornet , Jasper De Buyst and Moreno De Pauw ).
In 2013 Gijs Van Hoecke and Kenny De Ketele finished third in the European championship in two-man team driving. In the same year, the two drivers won the six-day race in Amsterdam together .
