Bruno Risi (* 6. September 1968 in Altdorf , Uri ) is a former Swiss professional - cyclist . The five-time world champion in points racing and world and European champion in two-man team racing was mainly active on the track.

Driver profile

Bruno Risi was a strong sprinting, explosive and spectacularly attacking driver, which is why he was in great demand at the six-day races that take place every winter . But he was also very persistent and fast-paced, which is why he repeatedly managed to dominate these competitions - initially until his resignation almost always with partner Kurt Betschart , later with other partners (including Franco Marvulli , Erik Zabel ).

Athletic career

As early as 1991 Risi became world champion in points race on the track in Stuttgart . In 1992, 1994, 1999 and 2001 he was able to repeat this success. Together with his former standard partner Kurt Betschart, he formed the most successful pairing in six-day sport: the Swiss won a six-day race 37 times. In the main discipline of the six-day race, the two-man team driving (Madison), Bruno Risi was a proven specialist. In 2003 and 2007 he and his compatriot Franco Marvulli won the world title in this discipline. In 2004 he was able to celebrate the culmination of his career at the Olympic Games in Athens with the same partner in two-team driving by winning the silver medal .

In his home town of Erstfeld , a square was named “Risi-Betschart-Platz” after Risi and his standard partner Kurt Betschart for years.

Bruno Risi ended his career with the 2009/2010 winter railway season. He contested his last six-day race in Copenhagen in February 2010 , where he finished third with Marvulli after winning the Bremen six-day race for the last time in January .
